Nym or Grok Bot: is one helper or a team of Bots better for a research task?
You find a good gift, open the delivery details, and discover it won’t arrive until Monday. You’re back to searching. For a Friday deadline, we’d want someone checking arrival dates before recommending anything. You can give that whole job to a Nym or a Grok Bot, or try splitting it between two Bots. We’d start with one. Grok Bot’s own docs recommend that too.
The difference
If you want to divide the job, you can create named Bots in Grok Bot, each with its own conversation and role. Start with New or Cmd/Ctrl+N. The documentation recommends trying one Bot first; its examples include Talent Scout and Expense Manager. For a single gift, we’d follow that advice. With Nym, you can leave the research with one helper and ask it to keep a shortlist in a personal app. Any purchase still needs your approval. You can request a text or scheduled follow-up on Plus. Both approaches let you start with the whole job in one conversation.
Try the same errand in both
“Find three drawing gifts under $60 that can arrive by Friday. Check each merchant’s delivery date on the merchant’s own page, then give me one shortlist with the trade-offs.”

- Run it once with a single helper. Count how many merchant pages it opened; ask for the URLs.
- In Grok Bot, run it again with two Bots: one researching, one checking delivery dates. See who changed the final list and whether the two disagreed.
- Lower the budget to $30 and compare the two shortlists line by line. Every item should now clear $30 delivered.
- Confirm nothing was ordered and no message was sent in either product.
What to check before you choose
Getting one shortlist you can use
Nym
You can give the whole errand to one Nym, then come back with a lower budget without deciding who needs the update. That would be our choice for a birthday gift. On Plus, it can text you when the delivery checks are done. The Personal Assistant example starts with “dentist, parcel, 15 minutes” and ends with an ordered plan and a phone script; you can read that conversation before trying your own request.
Grok Bot
You may enjoy dividing the research between specialists. For three gifts, we suspect assigning the roles would take longer than it saves. The docs recommend starting with one Bot too. If you try two, ask for one final list so you aren’t left comparing their answers yourself.
Choosing which accounts to use
Nym
You don’t need to decide which helper gets which account for a single errand. Start with the Personal Shopper template, or any of the five Nyms on this site, and give your copy the retailer login you want it to use. The conversation is yours alone.
Grok Bot
The second Bot has access to the same signed-in apps as the first. That surprised us; we’d expect two named helpers to feel more separate. The FAQ is clear that your Bots share one persistent cloud computer. The separation is between you and other users. Before you hand a Bot an errand, check which accounts are open there.
Leaving the research running
Nym
If you’re heading out, you can arrange a scheduled check-in on Plus and close the app. If you choose a gift yourself, turn the check-in off in the same chat. On Free, you can do the research in conversation but cannot schedule a follow-up. You can use the browser or download the desktop app for Mac, Windows or Linux.
Grok Bot
You don’t have to leave your laptop open while the research runs. Background turns and routines continue after you close the app, according to the FAQ. Before you leave it running, find the task’s stop control so you can cancel if you choose a gift yourself.
What you’ll pay for the research
Nym
You can try the task with your $5 monthly Free credits. Research shares that balance with everything else you ask your Nym to do, so we’d check what remains after the first search before planning a week of errands. You still approve any purchase separately and check the merchant’s confirmation.
Grok Bot
Check your remaining weekly usage before starting another search. Your plan includes a weekly allowance. If your account qualifies for additional usage, you pay for it at model and token cost, according to the FAQ. If you split the job, check whether both Bots are repeating the same research.
Changing your mind about the gift
Nym
A week later, you may remember the nice drawing set but not the shop. We’d ask for a gift list before leaving the chat. Your Nym builds it as a small private app with its own database, so the choices stay between visits. Open it inside Nym on your desktop or phone; your Nym can open it too and add the pick while you talk. If you lower the budget, ask it to change the app. You can edit it yourself or roll back a change. Your list is one of your two personal apps on Free or five on Plus.
Grok Bot
You’ll find the result on your Bot’s persistent cloud computer, as a file or in an app. If the budget has changed, say so in the conversation, then read the list again before ordering. We’d check the shipping cost first; that’s often where a $60 gift stops being a $60 gift. You can use Grok Bot on macOS, Windows or iOS.

When Grok Bot is the one to choose
If you already pay for an eligible Cursor or Grok plan and want to try assigning research to named Bots, start with Grok Bot. You’ll have a persistent cloud computer for the files and browser work. Choose Nym if you want to keep the gift list in a personal app you and your helper can both update, then use it again for the next birthday. If you need scheduled follow-ups, budget for Plus; Free includes $5 in credits a month.

Already paying for Cursor? You may already have access. The Grok Bot FAQ, which we read on 19 September 2026, says access comes with paid individual Cursor plans and Cursor Teams.
