What a good commitment looks like
Three is as many as a normal week can take. Give each one a first step you could do in ten minutes and a day: “find the practice number”, Monday, rather than “sort out the dentist”. The summary will tell you if two land on the same day or one has no first step. The form has three slots, but “Carry forward” adds a fourth if all three are full. We allow that, because if we refused, last week’s item would quietly disappear, and that is the very thing this page is meant to stop.
What to do with things you are waiting on
A parcel or the landlord’s reply goes in the waiting list with a check-back day. When the day comes and nothing has, chase. In the example it is the landlord’s reply about the boiler service, and Wednesday is the day to check back. The page sets no reminders, so put the check-back day in whatever calendar you already look at.
Drop tasks you no longer need
“Returning the library books; renewed online instead” is a loop that has been closed. An unticked commitment you don’t carry forward is a decision too; the summary lists those and asks you to drop or reword them. We’d rather see “dropped” written down than watch the same line ride along for a month.
