Nym vs Pally: two assistants you can text
You want the life admin gone, and you’d rather text than open another app. Pally and Nym both live in your texts, and Pally also makes phone calls for you. With Nym, you get an assistant with its own email from the Free plan up, and your yes comes before it buys.
The difference
Pally’s homepage says you text it, the same way you’d text a friend. You connect your messages and calendar, and you get a morning brief. Its plans include minutes of phone calls.
With Nym, you text your Nym too. It writes to people from its own email address and signs in to sites in its own browser. You approve each purchase before it happens.
Try the same errand in both
“I keep getting to Sunday night and realizing I haven't sorted anything for the week. Every Sunday at 6pm Los Angeles time, can you check in with me here about appointments, errands and one thing I'd like to make time for? Keep it to a few questions rather than a big productivity exercise.”
| Detail | Wren on the Personal Assistant page | What to look for from Pally |
|---|---|---|
| When | Every Sunday at 6pm Pacific, set up from that one message | Whether it runs on your schedule, or only in its own daily brief |
| What it asks | A few quick questions: this week’s calendar, errands and the one thing you want to make time for | Whether it keeps to a few questions |
| After you answer | Your Nym takes the errands on | Whether it does the errand, or reminds you to |
- Send both the same message on a Thursday.
- On Sunday at 6pm, see which one checks in and how short it keeps it.
- Answer with one errand, like returning a parcel. See whether it gets done or just noted.
What to check before you choose
Phone calls
Nym
Your Nym takes your calls, but it can’t phone a restaurant for you yet. When a job needs a call, you get the number and what to say.
Pally
Pally makes calls for you. Its plans give you 15 minutes a month on Free and up to 60 on Max.
Its own email
Nym
You get a Nym with its own email address on Free, so the landlord hears from it, not you.
Pally
You get a Pally email address on Max, at $100 a month.
Buying
Nym
You see the item and the total first, and it waits for your yes before buying. You can buy from Amazon with your account, or from independent online shops.
Pally
Pally’s FAQ says you approve a booking or purchase before it completes it.
Keeping track
Nym
Ask for a workout log or a gift list and you get a personal app that keeps your entries.
Pally
You keep track through Pally’s memory and the apps you connect. Its pages don’t describe apps it builds for you.
Where you text it
Nym
You text or call your Nym’s number, or chat in the Nym app.
Pally
You text it from iMessage or Telegram; Android phones use RCS. There’s no app to download and no signup.
