Pack enough to last until laundry day
For each adult, pack a top per day between washes and bottoms for every two days. Take underwear and socks for each day plus a spare. For children, take half as many extra tops. Add one extra pair of bottoms and two spare sets of underwear. Keep a change of clothes, wipes, a comfort item and something to do in the day bag.
Allow time for clothes to dry. Wash every three days and air dry overnight, and you need four tops per adult. Take two pairs of bottoms and five sets of underwear too. With a dryer you only need three days. Check the wash dates before leaving so you know when you’ll need a machine.
Prepare for your weather and activities
Tick as many as apply. If two blocks ask for the same thing it appears once, so cold plus snow sports gives you one line of thermals at the larger count. Day hike puts the National Park Service Ten Essentials on the list as separate lines, so navigation, light, first aid, shelter and extra food each get a checkbox rather than a footnote. We checked the Park Service’s list again on 19 September 2026; it still has the same ten, and all ten are lines here, down to the lighter. Check your passport and boarding pass before you fly. Put a power bank in your carry-on with its terminals covered, as the FAA battery rules require. Pack carry-on liquids in containers of 100 ml or less, together in one liquids bag. Check the TSA liquids rule and the UK hand luggage restrictions before travelling. A solid shampoo bar and a stick deodorant are the easy way round that limit.
Check the forecast yourself. Confirm visa rules and plug types for your destination. Remove shaving supplies or contact lens solution if you don’t use them. Add anything specific to your trip and tick it off as you pack. You can return to your settings in this browser next time.
